PEDADOGICAL CONTENTS

 

1.1   Teaching Method

The teaching methods that is being employed by my teacher in class are cooperative learning, student-centered approach, inquiry-based learning and project-based learning. My teacher always used these methods every time she handles her class to catch the attention of students and help her deliver her lessons well.

The students are working cooperatively their activity tasks after the discussion.

The above-mentioned teaching methods emphasizes student exercise, creativity, and communication skills. The instructor always asks questions and leads group discussions to help students enhance their capacity to express themselves, their originality in thinking, and their self-confidence. 

During my observation in the class of my cooperating teachers, I’ve witnessed the eagerness and willingness of the students to learn and grasp the lesson being taught to them. I was just amazed of the behavior they’ve showed during my observation. The students are participative and attentive in class discussion. In this way, I can say that the teaching method and style of a teacher means a lot.

 

1.2.  Learning Materials and Innovations

According to my observations, the teachers employ both traditional and non-traditional learning resources. Books, whiteboards, and pentels are examples of traditional learning resources. Non-traditional learning resources, on the other hand, include the use of PowerPoint presentations, computers, cellphones, laptops, projectors, and other computer equipment for teaching in class. Students are permitted to use their cellphones in class as an innovation since the school wants their students to be technologically adept and every time there is an assessment, they use cellphones to avoid the used of papers and ball pen.

The students are using books and laptops as their learning materials.

In other words, Muhammadiyah Abung Semuli's learning materials and innovations are commendable since learning is evident and knowledge acquisition always surpasses its limit. 

1.3.  Sources of Learning and Technology 

As a learning resource, teachers rely on the textbooks from the 13 curriculum which was provided by the school and sometimes they get reference sources from the internet.

When it comes to the technology, they used computer/laptop. They make PowerPoint and display during teaching using projectors. Students are allowed and encourage to used their cellphones so that they will be knowledgeable and readily prepared in the global market when they out in the school.

1.4.  Authentic Assessment

Based on my observation, SMK Muhammadiyah Abung Semuli displays an authentic assessment. Authentic assessment is an assessment that is focused more on demonstration that portrays on real life situation.  This is an assessment carried out to assess the entire learning process entity of students including individual and or group assignments inside and or outside the classroom, especially on attitudes/behaviors and skills.

One of the Batik textile teachers taught me how to create batik garments.

As what I’ve witnessed, teachers give an assessment every time they finished their chapter and semester. Just like what happened in my critic teacher class, she wanted that their students perform the activity. Students were encouraged to showcase their full potential and be at their best. This evaluation is a benefit to measure student’s abilities and understanding of the material.
